This is a Planimetric Map of Africa. Unlike a Topographic Map which shows both vertical and horizontal elevations on the earth surface, a Planimetric Map shows only horizontal position features with no regard to elevation. This map shows the horizontal relationship between the different geographical regions of Africa and its water bodies.
